About

The Absence of Heroes was a project born from conversations with my children. I quickly realised that some of the most impactful people to have ever lived were unknown to them and they were not aware of the heroes who were changing the world whilst they slept. Children appear to more knowledgeable of gamers, influencers and celebrities, and I ant to change that. So who are todays version of Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa, whose stories I could share? I quickly realised they were hard to find even though I know they existed, mainly because they weren't heard over the noise of "celebrity".  So I started to search for special people all over the world who were less known, but have done truly amazing things. I wanted to introduce my children to a new breed of hero, people they have not necessarily been taught about and won't ever hear about unless we give them a platform to amplify their stories. I am looking for people that children can relate to, remember, and share with friends, with inspiration at the heart of every of them.  From climate action, to rebuilding the lives of homeless people and setting up micro financing for economically deprived women, these are the heroes that walk amongst us in 2020.

Our Ask?

If you know someone, who have heard of someone you think could share their inspirational story, please let us know.  We are looking for people who make you sit down and take a breath, who leave you emotionally touched when you hear about what they are doing and who they are helping. The Absence of Heroes is looking for the lesser known, unsuspecting hero, whose story might never be told without your help.
